U.S. Grant. Scandal, incompetence, no lasting accomplishments in office. Great general, lousy president.
I would question his credentials as a "great general" as well, considering that his idea of strategy was "Overwhelm the Confederates with numbers, and damn the Union body count!" He was an effective general, but I would argue that being "effective" does not necessarily make one "great."
You could say the same for Eisenhower to an extent.

Some one of these days we mignt consider "No lasting 'accomplishments'" the mark of a really good president. 'Accomplishments' these days seem to be measured using a social engineering measuring stick. There is no such thing as a 'good' social engineering accomplishment. That is what the Left is all about. More and more we are getting way too much of that from the 'Right' also.
US Grant always gets the bad rap wrt his Presidency. But he is #1 when it comes to memoirs.
