Bush gets first look at anti-war protest near ranch ("estimated 50 roadside protesters")

CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - President Bush got his first look at an anti-war vigil near his ranch on Friday as his motorcade took him by the protest site lined with small white crosses representing fallen American soldiers in Iraq.

When Bush's black sport utility vehicle carried him past the site to a Republican fund-raiser, the protest leader, Cindy Sheehan, whose son was one of the nearly 1,850 U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq, held up a sign that said: "Why do you make time for donors and not for me?"

Other signs said: "Iraq is Arabic for Vietnam" and "Bring Them Home Now." Some protesters held up white crosses as well.

The protest vigil began last Saturday and is being led by Sheehan, who has been demanding a meeting with Bush to discuss her opposition to the Iraq war.

Two rows of police officers faced the estimated 50 roadside protesters as Bush's 15-vehicle motorcade cruised by without slowing down.

He was headed to Stan and Kathy Hickey's Broken Spoke Ranch for a barbecue and ribs lunch to raise more than $2 million for the Republican National Committee. The 230 people attending were among the party's biggest donors.

Hundreds of small white crosses had been erected along the side of Prairie Chapel Road, each hand-painted with the name of a fallen soldier.

Sheehan's son, Casey, was killed in combat in Iraq in April 2004 and she met with Bush in June 2004, but she wants another meeting. The White House has refused.

With Americans increasingly questioning the U.S. involvement in Iraq, Bush tried to address Sheehan's concerns on Thursday.

"Listen, I sympathize with Mrs. Sheehan," Bush told reporters. "She feels strongly about her position. And she has every right in the world to say what she believes. This is America."

He said he has thought "long and hard" about her demand to "get out of Iraq now" and strongly disagreed, saying a premature withdrawal would betray the Iraqis just as they are being trained to defend themselves and allow for a U.S. pullout.

Sheehan's group, Gold Star Families for Peace, released a protest ad that the organization said would run on cable television channels near Bush's ranch during August.

"Mr. President, I want to tell you face to face how much this hurts. I love my country, but how many more of our loved ones need to die in this senseless war? How many more soldiers have to die before we say enough?" she said in the ad.

The total ad buy was put at $15,000.

We aren’t supposed to fight against Cindy Sheehan because she’s a wounded soul. I’ll have none of it.

A "wounded soul" whoes son died April 4, 2004 after REENLISTING in the US Army. A son who won the Bronze Star for his actions. A "wounded soul" who met President Bush in July 2004. A "wounded soul" who is using her son's death, 17 months ago, as a political prop in her Hate America First "protest".

Problem is, with it being so small, she could deny it all day.

Nope she can't deny - it's her and her family. All dressed up and holding hands with the President. I copied it to my hard drive and magnified it.

Anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan is surrounded by cameramen and reporters as she holds up a sign for President Bush as his motorcade passes on the way to a political fundraiser near his ranch in Crawford, Texas, Friday, Aug. 12, 2005. Sheehan, president of Gold Star Families for Peace, has accused President Bush of lying about the war in Iraq which claimed the life of her son, Army Specialist Casey Austin Sheehan. The U.S. death toll from the war is now over 1,800, and a new AP-Ipsos poll shows the lowest approval yet for Bush's handling of Iraq, just 38 percent. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

There were more reporters than protestors.

Visualize a pile of corpses of US soldiers.

Visualize this woman climbing up to the top of the pile.

Maybe they were counting the fire ants that were biting their feet..

You know, I've been thinking about this fire ant stuff and I don't think the Pitt would know a fire ant from a loquat. I bet the big sissy got bit by good old fashioned red ants.

Oh I forgot it's a prop (see Clinton and stones on Normandy beach)

Even the left's props are lies. I've visited Normandy and there are no stones on that beach! It's all fine sand as far as the eye can see!

This is a different time than VietNam. 9/11/01 changed the world forever when America was attacked. And thanks to the Internet we can e-mail our military and tell them of our support, which we do on a regular basis. Our local police department recently requested donations for phone cards for our military in Iraq so they could call home. There are millions of Americans supporting our beloved military and doing great things for them. There's an organization that even sends air-conditioners to Iraq for our soldiers. As I sometimes mention in my e-mails to our military, please don't pay too much attention to anti-war protesters or the anti-war media, we Americans who appreciate you and love you, out-number them by millions.

The sad reality is that she is associating with the very people who support the insurgents; the terrorists, the very enemies that want us and our troops DEAD!!!

Thank you.

KLIF rally is going to take a morning shift and Freeper rally will take the afternoon shift.

The March for Justice had far more than 50 Freepers. There were enough people to hold 50 US state flags alone.

I stand corrected. How about the rest of the FReeps? Did they also have 50 or more people?

If I had any idea what you're trying to say by re-posting (out of context) one of my comments, I'd be happy to respond. Would you care to clarify?

You would think that with the amount of money the extreme liberals are paying for this charade, that they would be able to attract more suckers.

I have no idea what the rest of the Freeps mustered. The March for Justice was the one which stick in my memory.

Why do you care about the numbers? Are you trying to make a point and shore upthe left by the numbers toted here?

Lets see, should Bush go and meet some donors who like him. Or should he meet with a wacked out leftist mother who is intruding on his vacation, protesting outside his home and has meet before and she lied about what happened in the meeting. Really tough choice here.

From the DUmp:

I spent the day in Crawford, we yelled at gwb!!!!

"Shortly after the road opened, Cindy was by the VFP tent, giving an interview, when the obnoxious freepers began to arrive.

The first was a woman with a sign..."Your son is a hero, not a victim", followed by another woman with "Support our President" and an older couple with (my favorite) "Our voices must be heard..support our troops."
