Boston's beloved pair of swans -- feted by city leaders, residents, and tourists alike as one of the Hub's most celebrated summer attractions -- are a same-sex couple. Yes, scientific tests have shown that the pair, named Romeo and Juliet, are really Juliet and Juliet.
The city's Parks and Recreation Department conducted the tests months ago, but didn't announce the results for fear of destroying the image of a Shakespearean love story unfolding each year in the Public Garden.
''Each year when the swans go in, the kids immediately come to us and say, 'Which one's Romeo, and which one's Juliet?' " parks spokeswoman Mary Hines said yesterday in response to a Globe inquiry. ''It's just like one of those fairy tales; why spoil it?"

Apparently.
Oh no, and to think we're all ingesting same sexed laid chicken eggs with our breakfasts! Hope it's not catchy!!!
Why is this surprising. Boston is known for things homosexual.
My bet is they were hatchlings from the same clutch.
I have swans as regular visitors to my dock.
They are fairly common on Michigan lakes.
The males are very aggressive and drive off all contenders for space, food and family interference.
They must weigh 75 pounds, and are a formidable adversary for kayak or a jetski in a no wake zone.
This year we had 4 babies. The young from previous years seem to go off and restablish as their own flock for awhile, presumably until they find a mate.
Failing that, I imagine they remain as "family flock" until something better comes along.
Leave it to the media to assume they have a human failing.
How do you spell A-n-t-h-r-o-p-o-m-o-r-p-h-i-s-m??
The New York Times Company takes an icon and twists it to their agenda. The object is to deprive us of hope and, in this case, to influence our children.
So why did they spoil it?
LOL!
Well I certainly agree with you there, Marty, but it seems to me that Romea and Juliet have made an argument not only for heterosexuality and against homosexuality but furthermore for one-male/multiple-female relationships.
*Not that there's anything wrong with that.*
