In my experience, these giant vegetables are nothing special in the taste department. I could go over to the produce tent at the Fairgrounds and check it out, but parking is bad. OTOH, I could go over through my backyard and sneak in through the judge parking. One mile by foot, six miles by road. OTOH, it's too hot and smoky to do much of anything today.

Being from Michigan i'm not too familiar with these giant vegetables. I suspect they must be indigenous to the west coast. I agree on not doing too much, kind of steamy up here. Not that dry heat like in the south west where it frys your brain.
