Say, has anyone heard from Buddy Cianci lately? Has he made his own license plate yet"

Don't pick on my Buddy! Providence has turned from the Rennisance City into a sewer since David Sissyliney took over the office of Mayor from Buddy. My daughter in law, a Texan, jokes that people in RI are quite content to put up with a little corruption if it advances the economy.

You have no idea what the play was about, so please, use your discretion when stating that these plays are "bad". In no way did it point fun at Anne Frank...please, give more credit than that.

Topher-
"I do not, at this point, know if this is the infamous Vagina Dialogues or some version of it, but it said to be a very raunchy play (according to my source). "

Did your source see the show? I did see the show and there was nothing raunchy about it. In fact the show that eludes to "The Diary of Ann Frank" wasn't about Ann Frank at all. It was a social commentary on how people trivialize the Holocaust. Also, for future knowledge- it is called the Vagina Monologues.
As for your calling upon the ACLU- theatre is protected from censorship- even the FCC- and therefore is included under the First Amendment. ACLU harks on being defenders of the 1st Ammendment, therefore even if there was something derogatory about the Holocaust they wouldn't touch it.
Salve, and the Diocese are very lucky- what they did was technically breach of contract- I am surprised they have not been sued yet in these lawyer happy times.

... theatre is protected from censorship ...

Just as Jane Fonda was protected from criminal prosecution for treason in the Vietnam War.

But if something is produced on Catholic property that is objectionable to the Catholics YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TELL THE CATHOLIC CHURCH WHAT TO DO!!!

Go join Hanoi Jane and other baby killers if you really feel freedom is all about killing people...

The heads of the Roman Catholic Church have made it plan as day that they oppose the murder of innocent lives.

And in case you don't know history, the safest place in World War II was Rome -- the Vatican went to extra-ordinary links to save Jewish lives, as well as other lives.

I still say there is nothing funny about the Holocaust... The play was supposedly, as you say, something about the Holocaust and people trivializing it. Still sounds like it was bad news.

Are you stating that if the actors started to engage in sexual intercourse on the stage or some other vulgar sexual act, that this protected by freedom of the speech.

Why not show child pornography in a play if there is such strong belief in protection of freedom of speech?

I have an episode of the TV Show Dragnet (1953), where the person being pursued was distributed bad books on a high school campus. At that time, you could not send magazines like Playboy through the mail because of anti-porngraphy laws.

Planned Parenthood was involved in this, and that is enough for me to condemn it.

Many of the people who founded Planned Parenthood were strongly aligned with the Super Race concept and Eugenics -- which was practiced by Nazi Germany.

American Scientists gave great help to Nazi Scientists along this line, and these people were praised by people by Margaret Sanger.

Today, there is tremendous fight going on to try to save this generation of youth from the corruption of the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's. I am part of that fight...

And this has nothing to do with freedom of speech. It has everything to do with common defense.

I will always fight perversion...

And I will always fight those who believe in murdering itty bitty babies for their own welfare.

Mother Teresa said: "It is a poverty that a child must die, so that we may live as we wish."

I agree strongly with Mother Theresa and strongly disagree with you.

So how many babies are you and your liberals going to help kill this weekend?

Oh, I guess there are not babies because they have a brain and beating heart... Because you are liberal and you can do no wrong... Are you right or are you wrong?

The new Bishop of Providence (Most Reverend Thomas J. Tobin), formerly of Bishop of Youngstown of Ohio, learned of this, and apparently would not allow the play to be held on the Salve Regina College property.

A bishop with a spine? Deo Gratias!

A bishop with a spine? Deo Gratias!

If you check recent headlines, The Bishop of Phoenix and the the The Bishop of La Crosse, WI are in the same category.

The Bishop of Phoenix has banned Pro-Abortion politicians from his churches. The Bishop of La Crosse is having a screening process for any speakers in his Churches.

I would be in trouble if I did not mention:

Archbishop Emeritus John Francis Donogue of Atlanta

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput of Denver

Bishop John Yanta of Amarillo

Archbishop Raymond L. Burke of Saint Louis

Archbishop Jose H. Gomez of San Antonio (he worked under Chaput of Denver until recently).

Bishop Michael J. Sheridan of Colorado Springs

Archbishop John J. Myers of Newark, NJ

There are others, but also the present Bishop of Rome and previous Bishop of Rome come to mind:

Pope Benedict XVI

and the late pontiff -- Pope John Paul II

There are more, even Cardinal Egan making Marymount Manhattan a non-Catholic college, over Hillary Clinton, deserves credit...

Great list! Thank you.

This is very positive. I was also suprised at Egan, who has certainly not been as stalwart in defending the Church as O'Connor was. But you never know, maybe under this Pope he'll be a little more aggressive.

I live in Florida, where most of our bishops are either weak or blatantly corrupt (such as the morally-compromised, fan-of-young-men-in-Speedo's bishop of St. Pete's who behaved so disgracefully during the Terri Schiavo situation). But they've all got to retire or die one of these days, so maybe we'll start getting some good ones, too.

I have heard very good things about Bishop Victor B. Galeone of Saint Augustine.

Of course, one of these was that Father Frank Pavone gave a talk in his diocese when he visited Terri Schiavo last September or October. He could not (apparently) arrange to visit a parish in Saint Petersburg, and the trip to Tampa was a secular trip to give a talk at the Pro Life group that the county that Tampa is in gave. I forget the name of the event.

But he had to travel to a parish in a different diocese because... ...well I don't know.

But the source in Tampa that told me of the above claimed the Diocese of Saint Petersburg would not allow a parish visit by Father Frank Pavone.

Maybe they took the listing off because the event was canceled?

And that is possibly true. I did not find where was it was rescheduled or anything or if it still was a fund raiser for Planned Parenthood Votes! of Rhode Island.

And I really don't know if the plays were done in good taste.

My info was second hand on this. And the greatest concern from my vantage point was Planned Parenthood versus The Diocese of Providence.

The fact that these plays got canned at Salve Regina and the backing of Planned Parenthood made me believe my second hand info (about the plays).

For example, I fault the movie Love is a Many Splendid Thing (1950s) because the plot revolves around Adultery and a man cheating on his wife. The plot claims that there is no love between the reporter (the married man) and his wife. But that is never an excuse for fooling around.

Hollywood might want people to believe that this is okay (adultery and a husband cheating on a wife).

As far as I am concerned, such Hollywood plots come to life in lives such as Bill and Hillary Clinton (and Chelsea).

So what might be innocent and good to one person is not necessarily for me.

Though I have not seen these plays, I still have reservations because of the background. I believe that one knows a fruit by its tree -- only a good tree produces good fruit and a bad tree will produce bad fruit.

[The quote about the fruit and its tree is attributed to a man (that over a billion people claim is the Son of God) and was crucified in Jerusalem about 2000 years ago...]

Andrea and her friends may not be involved in that procedure but maybe one similar in the coming weekends...

If Energy is equal to matter times the velocity of light squared then why are all things relative.

You probably don't know the answer to that one. If I am supposedly brain damaged or brain dead as you claim, why are my HTML abilities of a higher level than yours.

Though I may have been to PMW, I never had been to PME, and the 1980's is the the wrong time period for the Hef thread...

Ol' Al didn't know he was starting the arms race... And he never intended to...
