Mother's Protest at Bush's Doorstep Raises Stakes (Traitor Cindy Sheehan makes Iraq Daily News!)
Iraq Daily ^ | 8/11/05

It links over to Newsday so here is an excerpt:

CRAWFORD, Texas — For more than a year, a modest bungalow known as "Peace House," located a few miles from President Bush's ranch, has served as a headquarters for antiwar activists. It is lonely work, with little more than a skeleton crew on hand much of the time.

But then Cindy Sheehan hit town.

The 48-year-old mother of Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, who was killed in an ambush in Baghdad last year, is consumed by the kind of grief that turns into a furious determination to do something — in her case, to confront the president and force him to explain why her son died.

Now, in the space of just a few days, what started out as a seemingly quixotic personal mission has become something of a phenomenon — with media swarming around Sheehan, leading liberal and antiwar activists parachuting in to try to make her their long-sought voice, and political experts in both parties working to assess what role she may have in galvanizing the public's gathering unhappiness with the increasing American casualties in Iraq.

Antiwar leaders hope that putting the spotlight on Sheehan will motivate Americans who oppose the war, creating a political force strong enough to compel the Bush administration to change course.

The dems were licking their chops on Fox yesterday, declaring all Bush had to do was meet with Sheehan and listen to her rant. That's all. There certainly would be no repercussions. Uh, sure. The host stood in for sanity. He didn't say Sheehan was giving aid and comfort to the enemy and causing more American deaths, but he hinted at it. It's a sad situation. The dem admitted they were using her, but only because they were the first to 'care'.

Well, Fox, at least, will probably show the letter and discuss it on tv. Interviewing the family might be tricky.

Sean Hannity said, finally, that Cindy Sheehan has crossed the line. Now she's made the Iraq Daily News. Can an interview on Al Jazeera be far behind?

Maybe Hanoi Jane will ask her to join the bus tour, or maybe she's already been there, done that.

I don't think those two fat heads will fit on the bus.

You're advocating mob rule. Not a good idea.

Fonda and Sheehan, fat heads, indeed, and if they cuddle up in public I hope somebody's there with a camera and mike. (Early am news here in MA mentions that FAT HEAD POWER COUPLE, Hill and Bill, are hitting Nantucket this weekend, maybe today, for a big fund raiser. I wonder if Kerry and TerAYsa will show up.)

I am not attacking you; I just want to point out that you are uninformed as to who and what this woman really is, and that she is DEAD wrong... and a TRAITOR!

As I said in my post, she is wrong. Being used by despicable – or even traitorous – people – is not, in itself, traitorous. Traitor strongly implies treason. Treason is, I believe, the only crime defined by the Constitution; it is a very serious charge – as is traitor. My point is that, without considerable evidence, the charge should be made; it cheapens the word.

If you call me a McCarthy-ite, I will be forced to call you a dim. Fair enough?

Fair enough.

If you have evidence that she is more than a useful idiot, I will consider it. I have not paid a lot of attention to the situation because I think it is mainly an indication of the medias bias toward Bush. I just do not like to see very serious accusations thrown around without supporting evidence.

BTW, I do appreciate the polite, reasoned, response.

No, i was contending that just because it was "aired" does not make it real.

I do not agree with your premise that I am advocating mob rule. I'm just saying people have a right to have a different opinion, as wrong as hers is. I do not agree that her son was "murdered" in an "unlawful" war, nor that President Bush should meet with her and her moonbat entourage. I don't throw the "T" word around lightly and I still assert my original point, which is you should be able to dissent without being called a traitor.

Call it dissent. I call it traitorous.

The words are not synonymous. dissent is, in this context, to have a different opinion. Traitor means to have betrayed your country. It also implies treason. Betrayal, in this context, must be intentional. Treason is defined by the Constitution.

Do her comments make it more difficult and dangerous for our troops? Almost certainly.

Do I wish she would shut the f#ck up? With all my heart.

Does that make her a fool? Yes!

Does that make her a traitor? No.
