Dont think we created the Taliban. They didn't take over until 1995, 8 years or more after the Ruskies left. What we did was arm just about everyone who was breathing to fight Ivan. The political structure of the Taliban is courtesy of Pakistan's ISI - an attempt to control their neighbor and keep out Iranian influence.

Indeed, there were a diverse group of factions among the Muj as of the 1980s. Some of them were actually the core of the pro Moscow Rabbani factions 10 - 15 years after the Russians withdrew. Others were rather middle of the road (I worked with one who'd immigrated here - you'd never guess that he'd been one - a blonde haired, blue eyed prepster, who just happens to be an Afghan - specifically, Pathan.) And of course, some became Wahhabi maniacs and were part of Taliban.
We did create the Taliban, we also trained Bin Laden to fight the Russians.......then, the Clinton Adminstration moved fighters to Bosnia to continue the fight against the Serbs in a prefabricated war.......this is a fact.....
