Its ironic...but I think that 'Christian compassion' is one of the talking points / emotional appeals that will be used to hold part of the Republican base together in this march towards the late Robert Bartley inspired open / borderless society.

"Compassion" didn't work for Mondale. Busing couldn't be credibly sold by limousine liberals who sent their kids to private or suburban schools. People aren't stupid. They figure out pretty quickly who is being asked to pick up the tab and who is freeloading. They wlll have no difficulty seeing through the kind of guilt trip bayourod tried to lay down.

Indeed. I am really afraid the whole party is going to be tarred and feathered with the brush of hypocrisy. There are none so blind as those who won't see. And its both parties, of course.
