McAuliffe: Hillary May Drop Out
NewsMax ^ | 8/10/05 | Carl Limbacher

Former Democratic Party chairman Terry McAuliffe is reportedly predicting that 2008 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will drop out of her 2006 Senate reelection race if a challenger like Jeanine Pirro forces her to spend campaign cash earmarked for her presidential race.

"I had a conversation with Terry McAuliffe during the Republican convention," former top Clinton campaign advisor Dick Morris told Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" Wednesday night. "And I said, 'Do you think Hillary runs for re-election to the Senate if she has a tough race?'"

According to Morris, McAuliffe replied: "No, why should she squander $30 million getting reelected to a job she doesn't want?"

Morris was reacting to the first statewide poll taken since Mrs. Pirro announced her candidacy, which shows support for Mrs. Clinton plummeting by 14 percent.

A Marist College survey released Wednesday showed 50 percent of New Yorkers backing Mrs. Clinton over Pirro - a 14-point drop since Marist polled the two candidates in April.

Morris said the key to defeating Hillary is for the telegenic Republican to raise early money.

"If [Pirro] can raise $3 or $4 or $5 million this month and next month and have a strong media buy in upstate New York and close that gap," he told "Hannity & Colmes" - "and Bill and Hillary are looking at polls that show [they're only] 7 or 8 points ahead of Jeanine - and they really are looking at Hillary being under 50 [percent], I bet you that Hillary withdraws from this race."

If Hitlery can lose in New York she will definitely lose nationwide in 2008.

Terry McAuliffe hasn't made a correct prediction in 5 years.
He's a consistent loser, but I hope he gets this one right.

If she runs scared as a Senator, why would the US want the b*t*ch as president?

"If Hitlery can lose in New York she will definitely lose nationwide in 2008."

It's a given Hillary would lose. (Bill) Clinton never even received 50% or more of the vote, either in '92 or '96. And Hillary can?

Nobody was more supprised about the 2002 and 2004 elections than McAwful. Why would anybody take him seriously?

My husband and I were talking about this possibility last night. But now that McAwful believes it, I know we were wrong.

I never understood why Sen Clinton would even run again in 2006, since the 2008 race is right around the corner. Was she really planning to only serve less than 2 years of another 6-year senate term? Seems very inconsiderate to her constituents who support her as senator.

I didn't think a candidate can raise funds for a run for one office and then use them for another. Besides, the last thing Clinton is going to have to worry about is money, regardless of the run. She'll have the whole Democrat elite falling all over themselves to host fundraised, Soros committing billions to his 509.

if a challenger like Jeanine Pirro forces her to spend campaign cash earmarked for her presidential race.

Funny... I wonder how people who gave her the money so she can run for the Senate feel about the reallocation of their funds?

And they aren't saying that Hillary won't win or can't win New York. They're only saying that if the fight to retain her seat becomes too costly, she should pull out and save her efforts for her run for the Presidency.

"(Bill) Clinton never even received 50% or more of the vote, either in '92 or '96. And Hillary can?"

And.... Bill was a centrist compared to Hitlery. She has no chance.

She can't pull-off a Bubba and promise to finish, if she won her Senate seat via "I promise I will finish... turn around almost immediately and start running for President, New York ain't Arkansas and she ain't Bubba.

For what it's worth, Shannon O'Brien, who is a Hillary clone (with 99% precision), lost soundly to republican Mitt Romney in massachusetts of all places.

Personally, I take that as evidence that Hillary hasn't got a prayer, in fact she may just be a distraction to Al Gore's candidacy.

I'm glad that both contrary indicators McFalafel and Dickie Mo saw fit to get their predictions out early.

Hillary stays in the race and gets beat like a child molester in prison.

Pirro could prove to be a tough candidate for her.

I surely don't see the DNC blowing 30 million to keep Clinton's seat when Pirro is a Hillary light.

I am a New Yorker and should have more say on this then those from out of state.

She already did.....and if I were in NY, I'd be insulted to have that scheming b*tch as one of my senators, especially if it were clear she didn't really want the job! Up-Chuck Schumer is bad enough, but to have that moron AND Hitlery would be intolerable! Okay, I'm not a New Yorker, and I have more brains than the average liberal, but sheesh.....how could anyone who's not a hardcore Marxist tolerate those two?????

The Punk's back in the headlines. Terry McAwful was the truly the gift who gave on giving. Dr. Demento is certainly an improvement over at the DNC - and McAwful showed how to get it done. With this guy, he was a tough act to follow! (laughing)

My gut feeling? Hillary is pure veneer. She is trying to put off as long as possible the scrutiny of a true race, especially with another tough woman that she can't play the "abused candidate" with.

Of course, we all know the MSM won't let anyone touch her. Every significant question about her will be neatly swept under the rug.

This attitude is what confuses me the most. Liberals will admit that Kerry was the absolute worse candidate ever but voted for him anyway.

If they will vote for the worst then Clinton has a chance.
