Because the members of the commission who are complaining publically didn't know until now. They clearly felt silly buggered, and fully intend to balance the books. When Les Hamilton gets mad, you know the s**t is going to hit the fan. Few in public life have more credibility that he does.

Otherwise, in late 1999-2000 the Clinton admin had other pressing priorities. There were determined to deal with another situation--frightfully dangerous Elian Gonzalez.

I heard on WMAL this morning that the Pentagon gave the info to the staff members of the 9/11 commission and they determined that the info wasn't important.
