Fugitive couple's car found at Kentucky motel Wed Aug 10, 2005 08:17 PM ET

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Reuters) - The hunt for an escaped convict and his wife who shot a guard to death outside a Tennessee courtroom, is now centered around northern Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio, after the couple's second getaway vehicle was found on Wednesday at a motel.

George Hyatte and Jennifer Hyatte apparently escaped capture by minutes, said Mark Gwyn, director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

"We feel the couple had been there and left minutes earlier," Gwyn said. Acting on a tip, U.S. Marshals and local officers went to an EconoLodge motel in Erlanger, Ky., south of Cincinnati, and discovered the van.

The motel was evacuated and armed officers entered a motel room but found it empty.

"We believe they are still in the area," Gwyn said. "We believe we are getting closer to making an arrest."

He did not disclose what was found in the room, but added: "We believe they are still armed, we have no reason not to."

They're up north now, out of the immediate area. If they'd been caught down here, breathing funny would have been an excuse. Granted, the LEOs up that way are still going to be intense, but I don't think they'll be as hard as the local Sheriff or Police departments would have been. Still, if they're looking to commit suicide by cop, I think they'll be given that opportunity.

No, she will be lucky to get out of this alive. He'll dump her lifeless body out in the boonies so he doesn't have her in his way. No morals here.

It's kind of scary knowing these people had to have driven right through one's community to get to where they this car was found.

FYI Erlanger is very close to Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky Regional Airport and right on I-75, four hours north of Knoxville. Erlanger is also within the Greater Cincinnati Metro Area, less than 10 miles from Downtown Cincinnati.

Why that's just about 4 miles away from my home! And just three weeks ago, we had an escaped convict coming from Eastern Kentucky into our area. WOW... and here I worry bout watching for deer on the hwys.. now I gotta think twice bout a couple convicts here and there.

Ahhhh what can ya do?

Great - more wacko things to worry about.

Prayers to the family of the victim.

I hope they cath them quickly - without more blood shed. JK
