Actually, in this case, it's the other way around. Cindy got herself invited to the Veterans For Peace (a 501 c 3, BTW) convention on August 5th.
The VFP were already planning to demonstrate against Bush--at the WH in September. And Cindy glommed on to them. They provided the bus, the "rent a mob" of 30 or so crackpots, etc.
The idea seems to have originated with this self-proclaimed sociopath, Stan Goff:
