I just don't think there's any historical precedent for Arab muslim states to adapt to Western democratic principles. Rule of law, individual rights, and secular governments.

The same thing was said about Japan and South Korea. There's never "historical precedent" for things when they are first done - there was none here in the U.S. before it was formed. So, that's not exactly an argument.
