I can't figure out why Oklahoma and Texas want to play in an old obsolete stadium in a rough part of Dallas.
Agreed. I've felt that since the inception of the Big12, they should just alternate between Austin and Norman every year. I feel good about the game this year, mainly because OU graduated most of their team (or rather, most of their starters have played out their eligibility). UT will definitely have to find a way to stop Adrian Peterson.
It's not just a game, it's an event, and the fact that it's played in the same place at the same time every year helps create the sense of gravity surrounding the game. If you go to this one and don't sense that something a little extra ordinary is taking place, your soul is on ice.
Isn't it because it's on the Texas State Fairgrounds and is the climax of the fair? You know, with Big Tex and everything?
One more thing: they've been starting the game at 11:00 am in recent years, to placate the TV networks. This doesn't give the fans who go to the game enough time to mill around the fairgrounds, eat corndogs, drink a few beers, let the animosity build. The game day experience is diminished somewhat by these 11:00 am starts.
