Never underestimate the power of NIMBY

Sorry, but where they want to site that LNG tank is ridiculous. I live less than 2 miles from the that site. if there were an accident, well over 5000 people live within the blast zone.
There several schools within a half mile.
To get to the facility, these huge LNG tankers need to pass under 4 bridges from Newport, RI, to Fall River, MA. For each passage the bridges would each need to be closed for up to an hour.
They are planning at least one round trip per week. These are bridges carrying interstate highways over the bays and rivers. The river would also be closed when the tankers are in port because the safety zone around the tanker is wider than the river.
The Coast Guard has refused to release any details of the security required. Security for this facility would be the responsibility of the surrounding towns.

Sorry for the long reply, but for these reasons, and many more this is just a bad site. It is much safer to unload offshore and use the existing gas line infrastructure to distribute the gas.

By the way I am all for the wind farm they want to build off the Swimmers(teddy kennedy) compound in Hyannis.
