Everyone needs to go to the link, because it isn't just these two movies. There are several more that Apuzzo discusses.
That's why I'm not as worried about this as the author is. We worried about the success of F9/11, but it didn't change anything. People are smarter than we sometimes give them credit for being. They'll either ignore one of these "WE are the terrorists!" movies, or they'll just go and be entertained and forget about it. I don't think Hollywood has the skill any more to convert people to their ideology.
Good call. $220M or whatever they grossed on F9/11 at these ticket prices was only 2 or 3 Million moviegoers, I thought at the time, about .1 % of the population probably less votes than that. But, nice people shouldn't be locked out of the moviehouses because of this ugliness. What's happening in H'wood is nothing short of elitist tyranny.
Oh, I'm there with you. It makes me sick the kind of trash they try to foist on the public. Spielberg could do a good thing with his movie, but he hires a cretin like Kushner. Knowing his bio would be enough, but after the assault of Angels in America, I won't see anything with which he's associated. I guess I'm just saying, there's nothing we can do to stop these films, but at least I don't think the public is going to be converted by them. Or, it's my hope, anyway.
Another example of Hollywood finding the bottom of the pit and proceeding to dig further. The last movie I saw was the Lord of the Rings. The next movie?? I don't know. Serenity maybe. The TV show was pretty good (Firefly).
BTTT. Rush Limbaugh was talking about this column
While I agree with your general sentiment, and while I can't stand Michael Moore, his F911 grossed nearly $120 million in the US last year, and with avg ticket prices of about $6 last year, that would be about 20 million admissions in the US alone. You could make a good argument that it may have been a few million less than that since very little of its business likely came from matinee shows and from children, while it probably did a disproportionate share from more expensive big cities and later showings. But it still sold millions of tickets.
First George Lucas, now the Wachowski brothers -- Natalie Portman must have a thing for bad writers and bad dialogue.
And yes, the Matrix sequels were awful. But I saw the poster for V For Vendetta at a theater recently, and its tag line was;
"People should not fear their governments, Governments should fear their people"
You could make an argument that that expresses a somewhat conservative viewpoint in the way that conservatives generally fear a federal govt that is too powerful, and that does not rely on the consent of the governed, and that would seek to take away Second Amendment rights. Now having said that, I'm sure that never crossed the minds of the filmmakers, as they instead will probably make the fascist British govt a thinly veiled representation of the Bush administration.
But really, all I know about the plot is what I've read here, so maybe I shouldn't assume it will be a Bush bash, but then again its probably more likely than not.
Everything's under the sun has been "done". The key is the execution. V for Vendetta is an excellent graphic novel.
Hollywood is succeeding in brainwashing our kids. A 19 yr old girl I know is pregnant and said she and her boyfriend didn't need to get married just because they're having a baby.
