If using Indian nicknames is a slur, then why isn't using other ethnic nicknames a slur on them? Shouldn't the NCAA Executive Committee ban the use of ethnic nicknames? Or all names based on people, occupations, human characteristics? The "Lumberjacks" is a slur on working class men, who cut down forests. Nearby in Midland, Michigan, home of Dow Chemical, the high school nickname is the "Chemics". Isn't that a slur on Chemists? If not, why not?
When this issue bubbled up years ago, I came up with the only appropriate PC nickname: "The Amoebas". Why? They have no color, they have no sex (or gender to the pc folks), they have no human qualities and they've killed millions of human beings. What's not to like?
