I'm not what you would call a big fan of the hijab.

I feel sorry for these people.

For skinheads, the Swastica expresses true commitment.

I wonder if they feel good about genital mutilation, too.

Replace "hijab" with "female circumcision" and one might get a protest out of the feminists. Short of that, anything goes with TROP treating remales as chattel in the name of diversity.

According to some Islamic scholars, the hijab is not even a real tenet of Islam or specifically advocated in the koran. I believe I read somewhere that the hijab got very popular for women when the Iranian Islamofascists were coming to power in the 1970's.

Madhat, a recent graduate of the University of Kentucky's pharmacy and diplomacy schools, remembers that her friends became distant and stopped inviting her to parties in high school when she began wearing the hijab.

"They thought I had joined some kind of cult," she said.

Well yeah...

"The only doubt I had was, `What will my friends say?'"

Obviously they did not say " you are a nut" frequently enough.

It evokes pity in me too. That, and sadness at the stupidity of people who willingly join and 'submit' to this cult. (Islam meaning 'I submit')

I see veiled women all the time in my neighborhood. I feel a vague annoyance and mild hostility. I don't know why.

Maybe because they don't like my dog!

As a symbol, more than anything else it seems to say: "I'm so happy wearing this to symbolize that as a woman I have a value that is measured in goats"

I always thought it funny to see a black woman of Farrakhans movement in Arab dress. Poor deluded person.

We should feel sorry for them. They are isolated and brain-washed, usually by their own families.

Yippy skippy. They think honor killings are pretty neat, too.

I feel the same way. I want to shout "You're in America! You are a citizen. You're not a tourist! Make up your mind or go back home."

What's really crazy , its usually half American dress and then this headgear. Funny, I have great respect for nuns who wear a habit...guess that really IS a committment.

Women in the Middle and Near East have traditionally covered their heads. Its more of a cultural thing (see Mary, mother of Jesus) than a religious thing.

There is NOTHING in the Koran that calls for the hijab, not to mention the burka.

It's an ARAB thing.

These chicks are all crazy mixed up.

Especially the one named MadHat. She is right, there IS a big thing on her head telling everyone what she is! A MadHatter!

If you want to dress more modestly than Britney Spears - hey, nobody's stopping you. But you can do it in an American way. This mode of dress - especially for new converts - is a deliberate poke in the eye at middle America - always a lot of fun for adolescents.

The truth is - Islam is the latest teenage fad. They are encouraged to side with 'the oppressed' by their 'teachers.' Oh well, maybe now they will stop wanting to turn gay. Or acting like ghetto blacks.
