Tell him to read the Constitution instead of the newspapers. That would "keep him on target" and relieve him of bad press. Presto, no more worries.

Breyer is a scumbag who legislates from the bench like a political hack.

If the scumbag just did his own job and let the state and federal legislatures do theirs, and at the same time stayed away from initiatives that were passed overwhelmingly by voters, then the scumbag wouldn't have to worry about "political criticism".

Maybe instead of ruling based on a desire to be accepted by Eastern liberal intelligensia, he is starting to worry about being accepted by those who value the Constitution.

Breyer said the nine-member court is focused on constitutional limits on major fights of the day. "We're sort of at the outer bounds. And we can't control politics of it, and I don't think you want us to try to control politics of it," he said.

Which is why you approved CFR?

"rulings on difficult subjects like gay rights and the death penalty have left courts vulnerable to political attacks that are threatening judicial independence."

What about "Eminent Domain", Stephen??? (Are you paying attention, Justice Souter???) Maybe a little political--and economic--pressure on Supreme Court Justices is not such a bad thing, huh???

Absolutely no mention of the Kelo decision on eminent domain.

Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer said Tuesday that rulings on difficult subjects like gay rights and the death penalty have left courts vulnerable to political attacks that are threatening judicial independence. Breyer urged lawyers to help educate people about court responsibility to be an independent decision-maker

There would be no problem if they stuck to the wording and original meaning of the Constitution, the U.S. Constitution that is.

He should have stuck to making the flavourless imitation of Dreyer's ice cream.

I don't think you want us to try to control politics of it

Is that a threat?

Breyer defended using overseas legal opinions as a guide only, adding, "It has hit a political nerve."

Yes. It hits me right in my "unacceptable" nerve.

Fortunately, they haven't tried to import one sort of foreign law--Sharia-just quite yet. But what's to stop them if foreign laws are cited as precedents or models?

If we do not protect our courts, our courts cannot protect us," Greco said.

__________________________________________________

Can somebody tell me what this means? The court is supposed to uphold the constitution, not protect us. Its a legal document. We don't need protecting.
Why ,pray tell, are we supposed to "protect" the court? From what? From whom? No wonder we are in such a judicial quandary.
