umm...

Why do so many of you react so strongly against female circumcision... but have probably had it done to your male children without much thought and surely no disgust?

I see no difference, they are both mainly done by parents to their children for mostly religious reasons.

I am not endorsing the practice, but just find the responses here funny.

I'm opposed to both male and female circumcision. Female circumcision is generally more brutal than male circumcision. Male forskin is removed with a clean sharp knife. Female genitalia is often hacked apart with a stone. Aside from religious reasons, the main reason for male circumcision is cleanliness. The main reason for female circumcision is to prevent her from enjoying sex. These are probably the reasons why people tend to be more outraged by female circumcision.

Because male circumcision is hugely less destructive than most of the practices euphemized as "female circumcision?"

To use the analogy of a haircut, male circumcision is taking a little off the top, female circumcision in many versions is more like taking off the scalp.

Also because whatever we Americans do is by definition right and proper, by definition, and those weird practices of furriners are just disgusting.

Because male and female circumcision are not the same thing. Female circumcision is removal of the clitoris, analogous to removal of the penis on males.
