I think the possibility exists that Rummy used an extramarital affair as a technicality, and the real reason is that he just got on the wrong side of the SecDef . . . talked out of school, etc. I've heard from many sources that there is a war going on in the Pentagon at various levels. Conditions like that would mean you'd have to be very careful what you say and who you say it to.
I do find it strange however that he'd divorce a wife of many yrs for a casual sexual affair?
A war at the pentagon is nothing new...that's pretty much SOP...
No matter the reason, I'd bet that the President and Vice President were fully clued in before the action went down on Monday.

I guess that is right. Specifically, I was thinking about the sides that have been chosen up between the pro v. anti Rummy factions . . . Civilian and Military.
I still find that Byrnes wife Karen of 20+yrs with 3 kids; Jesscia, Tracee and Kevin Jr. divorcing is suspect. A man doesn't walk away from that for a casual affair. Just about the only time that this happens is for a very serious other relationship, IMHO.
