WASHINGTON Sen. Jon Corzine's lead in the New Jersey governor's race has slid to single digits after the revelation that he gave $470,000 to an ex-lover who heads the state's biggest public-employee union, a new poll shows.
Corzine (D-N.J.) now holds an 8-point lead over Republican Doug Forrester 45 to 37 percent down from 12 points a month ago before news of his gifts to Local 1034 chief Carla Katz, the RasmussenReports.com Sunday poll found.
"It's a warning sign for Corzine but it's certainly not panic. He's lost ground over the past month. If there's more bad news for Corzine, it could be significant. If not, he could be back up to double digits," said pollster Scott Rasmussen.
The Sunday poll of 500 likely votes has a 4.5 percentage-point error margin. The sample included 40 percent Democrats and 30 percent Republicans.

OK, if this is close to NJ registration.
No doubt a portion of that percentage also reflects the disillusionment of a portion of the gay crowd who entertained certain notions about the man.
One thing that we can bank on: There are precious few Democrats in NJ that feel even the slightest tingle of moral outrage over this latest revelation.
Hell, no need to stop in NJ.
Rarely has any Democrat shown any umbrage over any moral or ethical outrage by any of their kind.
To the contrary, they rally to the pervert or criminal of the moment. - Look at Bill.
Not to worry! If it looks as if he is going to loose, the Dims will substitute someone who can win.
Time to bring in Bob Torricelli for an endorsement!! :-D
I remember people saying the same thing about Bob Torricelli - absolutely insisting his terrible polling numbers didn't matter.
Belated ping
I lived in NJ for years and nothing can convince me that the state is nothing but beyond hopeless at this point.
Corzine could be locked up in prison and having an affair with the former Governor (thats Jim McGreevey, who claims to be a member of the race of "gay American's) and he would still win with 55% of the vote.
Any chance he decides NOT to run..could he then try and stay in the Senate? Can you spell CHUTZPAH?
Why not? In NJ they make up the rules as they go along.
With NY State, non-NYC, in such an impoverished mess, somebody should have a chance against Senator Pruneface.
How large was the sample? If it was more than 1000 people I would be suspicious. Does NJ really have more than 300 Republicans?
Even better, Corzine should get endorsements from ex-Gov McGreevey and his ex---Golan Cipel. This way Corzine could hustle several hyphenated "victimized" voting blocs, and win sympathy for his "tolerance and compassion," all at the same time (sniffle).

McGreevey and Cipel at the "prom."
"He will still win. New Jersey is so liberal and so Democrat that his opponent John Forrester hasn't been in the news for months!"
No.. New Jersey is corrupt. Big difference.

Katz: "Wait'll he finds out how much this is going to cost him."
Haircut and Style: $120.00
White Designer Dress: $455.00
Take on the night's work: Priceless
I tend to think that is deliberate on the part of Forrester's handlers.
Doug is not very good in front of the camera......tends to come across as a huffy, prissy "Clifton Webb" talk-down-to-you type.
