The husband of Terri Schiavo was honored by a group that advocates guardianship services for his years-long efforts to get his wife's feeding tube disconnected.
Michael Schiavo was given the Guardian of the Year Award by the Florida State Guardianship Association yesterday.
Terri Schiavo lived in a persistent vegetative state for 15 years before dying in March. She died after a protracted legal battle between her husband and her parents over her end-of-life wishes.
She died from dehydration after her feeding tube was disconnected.
A Franciscan friar who serves as the Schindler family spokesman Brother Paul O'Donnell said the award was offensive.
They said Michael Schiavo was a controversial choice, but they decided to honor him because of his commitment to honoring what he says was his wife's wish to not be kept alive artificially.

scarier still is that our government found no means to protect her from him; and instead supported him. scarier still is that our government dispatched an armed guard to prevent her from being given water.

I felt the same way. I read about it yesterday and felt sick to my stomach. I don't like to get drunk but I wanted to open up a bottle and crawl into it.
My hatred for these people is so great I felt like going to confession. But I don't think it would be a good confession since I am not sorry I hate those people. I still may email a priest friend to gain solace for my pain.
What a shame the weakest and most defenseless are in danger from those who profess to help them.
I agree. No one who could have saved her would do it and a corrupt judge sentenced an innocent person to a barbaric death, the kind of death we are not allowed give to the worst of criminals. BTW, a nine year old boy who tried to bring her water was handcuffed by the police and taken away.

Michael has not yet been charged with the murder he committed. There is no statute of limitations on murder. There is plenty of proof that he murdered her. We could recap all the evidence every week, and still there would be trolls showing up pretending not to know. Just go back over the threads yourself. If you're honest, you will recognize the proof.
You might start with the fact that he had her starved and dehydrated to death in the absence of any legally required prerequisite. She had not requested removal of any life support in the event she met the medical criteria. She did not meet the medical criteria for removal of life support. Food and water is not artificial life support, and never was. Even though the Florida Legislature redefined life support to include feeding tubes, this was not the case at the time of Terri's mysterious collapse while alone with Michael. Terri was able to swallow food, until Michael ordered that all oral feeding be withheld. According to the autopsy, the only thing preventing her from eating and drinking was the muscle degeneration caused by Michael's illegal withholding of therapy.
