The only argument I've heard is that it could disenfranchise the infirm elderly and the most extremely poor, because they may not have access to get a state-issued ID card. There is *some* merit to that idea.

The Governor has said that he would make it as easy as possible for people to get the ID (if needed - after all, most already have a driver's license). Saturday, his office announced that mobile units would be made available and dispatched to places like senior's centers, and presumably other "disadvantaged" areas to facilitate the ID.

LOL, I said there was *some* merit, not *much.* :) The idea of sending mobile units out is excellent. All in all, I think that it's a good idea.

What surprises me is how badly the usual suspects, Jesse et al, have misread the intent of this proposal. It doesn't have anything to do with trying to disenfranchise African Americans. It has everything to do with a) keeping illegal immigrants from voting and b) reducing overall voter fraud.
