What We Cannot Lose
Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. Isaiah 46:4
|
Years ago I heard about an elderly gentleman who was suffering from the first stages of dementia. He lamented the fact that he often forgot about God. "Don't you worry," said a good friend, "He will never forget you." Growing old is perhaps the hardest task we have to face in this life. As the saying goes, "Getting old is not for sissies." Mainly, growing old is about losses. We devote most of our early life to acquiring things, but they are merely things we will lose as we age. We lose our strength, our looks, our friends, our job. We may lose our wealth, our home, our health, our spouse, our independence, and perhaps the greatest loss of all, our sense of dignity and self-worth. But there is one thing that you and I will never losethe love of God. "Even to your old age, I am He," God said to the prophet, "and even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you" (Isaiah 46:4). "The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree," wrote the songwriter (Psalm 92:12). "Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age" (vv.13-14). David Roper
Jesus loves me, this I know, Though my hair is white as snow; Though my sight is growing dim, Still He bids me trust in Him. Warner
God's love never grows old.

Good morning, Mayor. I trust you had a good weekend.
"Growing old is perhaps the hardest task we have to face in this life....Mainly, growing old is about losses..."
Insert 'infirmity' in place of 'growing old' and this devotional hits home. Being hit with growing infirmity in the prime of life is difficult, too.
Yet, I wouldn't change it for one important reason. It has taught me *experientially* about God's love and grace. It is one thing to read about it in scriptures. It is another thing altogether to understand it though experience. *That* brings a smile to my face.
Happy Military Monday to all the Finest. Saying a prayer of thanks and protection for all our military. Please remember my sons(Navy).

Your Pledge of Allegiance graphic is great, too.
Another On The Road day for me, but will try to post late this afternoon.
Praying for good weather for your building project, and safety, Rus,
and success in your campaign.

Hello again, Tom and Mrs... Back from a glorious week in the Adirondacks near Fort Drum. Love it- a much more conservative place. There are signs in front of nearly every store that say 'We support our troops', discounts for soldiers, and many other good things... Unfortunately, I have no clue what's going on in the world...
Thank you troops!

Welcome Tomkow6
everytime I post at canteen (which is NOT TOO OFTEN), you think I am a first time visitor & put on a fancy smancy spread. Hope this meager welcome will let you know we are most happy to have you here. And I wouldn't be a burka candidate. I am always hot in the normal clothes I wear & in summer get by with bathing suits all the time around the place. I am afraid I would NOT cut it as a Mideastern lady

Morning, Mrs, and thank you much. Glad to know that Canteen life goes on... I imagine I'll venture back there tonight when tomorrow's thread starts up. Kinda hard to jump in mid-conversation, ya know?
Have a great day!
