They had every single "protection under the law" that any other citizen of that state had. What they could not do is claim that their homohood earned them any extra protection.
Where exactly did I say any different?
And the people of the state played right into their hands by voting in a law specifically classifying "them" as a group, or am I wrong about that, too?
