You're thinking of the California Supreme Court's recent decision. Its not a stretch to say that churches can be forced to marry gays next. The Nazis had nothing on us in the march to a totalitarian gleischaltung overseen by the courts and their handmaiden the ACLU. Honestly, it wouldn't bother me. In my dream world all American educational institutions teach consistent English, American History, and Civics -- and promote good American citizenship. Beyond that, eliminating multicultural divisiveness only makes for a more efficient educational system. Where I live, for example, the push is on to make Laotian language requirements in schools. To me, that just means one less hour per day of reading, writing, arithmetic, and science. Pointless diversity is just that, pointless. It's well past time to put the "education" back into the "public education system". My opinion only; your mileage may vary.

So, the Hawaiians are reaping what they have sown. They have sent nothing but Democrat Senators to Washington, who have resolutely played the victim card. Just as resolutely, they have consistently supported every left wing federal judge who now rules over them as a berobed priester, sprinkling the holy water of political correctness all over the ninth circuit.

Now ethnic Hawaiians have taken to the streets to demand a special privilege to discriminate as recompense for their self-proclaimed status of victim-hood. They needn't worry overmuch, their bleatings will almost certainly gain them a shadow zone where they can carry on with their race based discrimination free of fear of effective prosecution- much like the immunity from prosecution enjoyed by black churches who engage in blatant political activity.

Sadly, it is very unlikely that even one of those Hawaiians who have taken to the streets to blow into conch shells in protest, will ever look into a mirror and recognize Dr. Frankenstein.

OK, its a good example for a private school. My point is that the good teaching could be had in public schools that you and I do pay for if they followed a few simple ground rules and got rid of the teachers union. And it would not require spending like this school. (BTW, I don't mind the spending, the school can spend it they like, I was mistaken in assuming you were liking the model for all schools. You were not, my apology.)

A private school that gets no tax support should be able to admit anyone it wants to. A free society includes freedom of association.

I live in Hawaii and the Kamehameha Schools are already multicultural; the vast majority of students are a mixture of every ethnic and racial group found here. Very few of the students are more than 50% Hawaiian, and most are a lot less. The only constant is a minimum of 1% Hawaiian blood. That's why the kids have last names (reading from a Kamehameha football program) of Silva (Portugese), Wong (Chinese), Jung (German), Yamashita (Japanese), Soon (Korean) Pacarro (Filipino) and Smith, Holt, Williams etc. My wife has a friend with a daughter who is 3/32 Hawaiian and looks like a 15 yr old Vanna White, and she would be eligible. I believe that if the Kamehameha Schools do not receive public funding, then the courts have no right to intercede in their admissions policy.

There is a very simple solution to Kamehameha's predicament: Open enrollment to any scholastically qualified student (there is an admissions test - only about 50% pass), but charge the market rate of approximately $30,000 for a boarding student or $15,000 for a day student. Then use the Bishop Estate money to provide scholarships to whoever the Bishop Estate trustees deem worthy - and that can be anybody - especially those of Hawaiian blood. Many colleges already have scholarship money earmarked for certain racial and gender groups, so it shouldn't be an issue.

The Native American tribes were just that 'tribes'
basically nomadics . Not that this justifies the treatment they often received , alot of which they brought on themselves
by their overly proud and violent behaviors.
However at the time of overthrow , Hawaii was a legitimate and internationally recognized Kingdom with representation found in many places around the world . Perhaps not the most polished of Kingdoms and certainly not a military power .
A very 'open' place where foreigners were welcomed and rewarded , not attacked and killed ,as in many cases on the mainland. Yet for their openness and Aloha, many greedy ,evil ,plotters , of the same ilk that occupied and subjugated the South after the War Between the States , came in and played upon their economic influence and political connections in America , to arrange an armed subversive movement that eventually found a ally in the US Naval commander and his Marines . At a crucial moment the plan was hatched and
the troops occupied the Palace and the Queen was put under House Arrest. This was an illegal overthrow , plain and simple. Or was it Manifest Destiny? The Hawaiians have legitimate complaints....

Not true. The rebellion was primarily fomented by white men who were citizens of Hawaii, in some cases second or third generation residents. They were armed and willing to fight for their property, which the Hawaiian monarchy and nobles had sold or leased to them, and was calculating how to take back to support their corrupt, wasteful and extravagant lifestyles (the Iolani Palace was one of the most expensive residences in the world at the time it was built). The presence of one US warship in the harbor with several hundred sailors and Marines was hardly a factor, as the armed rebels in Honolulu alone numbered approximately 1500. The US did not annex Hawaii for 5 years after the overthrow of the monarchy.

by the time of the overthrow , Hawaiians had become quite peaceful non-violent people , which is why they didn't rise up with clubs or what not . They would have been slaughtered by the haoles with the guns.
Now days they just have loud voices , apparently.
