Ever have a teacher who tried way too hard to be "down" with the kids? Who never knew that he was using out-of-date lingo or patronizing the intelligence of the people he wanted to befriend?
If you have a masochistic desire to spend hours with that kind of person, you could tune into Current TV, a new cable channel that debuted in 20 million homes nationwide Monday. (In South Florida, Current is available on DirecTV.)
For a channel that is supposed to be aimed squarely at 18- to 34-year-olds and reflect their views and concerns, Current (whose chairman is Al Gore) is remarkably clueless and elitist. And a fair amount of the content could be found elsewhere.
After a rather pointless story on a "sneaker pimp," or gym-shoe aficionado, host Shauntay Hinton mused, "I wonder, when his shoes get dirty, does he slap them like a real pimp would do to his own employees?"
Such casual condescension and witless arrogance is all over Current -- that, not the content, is what blew my mind.

What amazes me is even the libs don't like it! The comments I've seen over at DU about Al Fraken quite frankly, are disturbing.
It will be gone soon enough unless Soros has an endless supply of funds to keep squandering.
You have piqued my curiousity with that one; I had assumed Franken was the guy all the DU women wanted to love and all the DU men wanted to be like (or vice-versa, being DU and all).
Are you and King Prout the same poster?
Let me see if I can find the posts.
Amazed is right. Some of them actually sounded as if they liked Franken less than I do... which I used to think would be difficult, if not impossible.
OTOH, the lack of power at night might have helped the situation by not letting people know exactly how bad they are.
Warning to the directors of Non-profits: Do not, repeat NOT approve "loans" to Current TV unless you want to spend a lot of time before IRS auditors and answering grand jury subpoenas.
LOL
Now why would anyone be surprised that a television venture chaired by the original oak would be stiff, condescending, and peppered with lame patter?
Depends if they can acquire sweetheart loans from any childrens or retiree clubs. It will be gone soon enough unless Soros has an endless supply of funds to keep squandering.
Actually it might be more fruitful to investigate Current TV funding sources for the possibility that they are illegal campaign contributions. Not, mind, that I think that law is constitutional - but they are the clowns that wanted that law on the books in the first place. Udoubtedly they figured that they could get away with violating it - and that they would be able to crucify any conservative who did likewise. But are Current TV or Air America any better - are they as good - as Newt Gingrich's GoPac?
This one lousy show took how long to get off the ground??????
That depends on how much money Algore's pals can skim from tax-funded programs for sick children and senile senior citizens.

Leftwing fatcats provided the startup cash. The question is, How much paid advertizing is there? If there is no ad revenue and no audience, Soros and his pals will throw their money elsewhere.
-"...like a real pimp would do to his own employees?"-
Pimps don't have employees - when you think you have to be politically correct when speaking of pimps and ho's, that should tell you something.
This is good - it's black hole of stupidity devouring lib funds that might do some real damage elsewhere. Rather like Air America.
