Tibbetts and the other men of the two missions put out a well fire with a pair of explosions just as sure as Boots 'n' Coots or Red Adair.
Millions would've died in the inferno otherwise.
Now let us preempt the Iranian nuclear terrorist attack intending to "kill the infidels wherever you find them."
The bad part? Tens of thousands of American veterans would have died of fallout and radiation sickness, unless we had some idea by the time of the invasion of the bomb's severe effects. It was something of a mystery in August of 1945.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
I am astounded by the depth of knowledge among FReepers. Ask a question on anything and you'll find someone who is thoroughly familiar with the subject (or is in fact a subject matter expert).
Basilides. I found your post fascinating!
Amen. I spoke to a former CEO of AK Steel (now ARMCO) who was a "Higgins Boat" pilot in WW II and who was practicing for the planned invasion of Japan. He said when the news of the bomb was announced on his vessel, a huge cheer went up, because those men knew they might not now have to die taking the home islands.
"...But, next year the surviving crewmembers will again be asked if they regret dropping the bomb. The press continually shows its leftist colors; acting surprised and even appalled that they get the same answer year after year."
Until, of course, they die and cannot speak for themselves anymore. Then the press will make up stories about how they were privately racked with guilt, etc.
