Note that the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is different from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. The bridge spans the Bay up near Annapolis, while the CBBT connects Virginia Beach with Cape Charles via a series of causeways and two separate tunnels. It would be difficult, if not impossible block the channel by blowing the CBBT, since the tunnels are actually buried below the bottom of the Bay. I've developed my own scenarios, but I'm certainly not going to put them out in public. Suffice to say, it would require an amazing degree of timing, communication and dumb luck.

In addition, this area is under so much scrutiny I can't get my little 25-foot sailboat within a hundred yards of any critical structure without risking some .50 caliber thru-hulls being opened up for me.

Ismael Selim Elbarasse has some other interesting connections...

Saudi Academy Disputes Radical Reputation (5/18/05)

ALEXANDRIA, Va. May 18, 2005 — The Islamic Saudi Academy is seen by some as a dangerous outpost of militant Islam on the outskirts of the nation's capital. And as evidence, they point to the school's 1999 valedictorian, who is charged with joining al-Qaida and plotting to assassinate President Bush....

Two other people connected to the academy have turned up in terrorism-related cases: A federal indictment in Chicago last year named a former treasurer of the school, Ismael Selim Elbarasse, as a high-ranking official of the militant group Hamas, though Elbarasse was not charged with a crime. Mohamed Osman Idris, an ISA graduate, pleaded guilty in 2002 to lying on a passport application after an investigation into whether he was supporting Hamas.

Thanks SlowBoat for letting us know the difference. I don't like the concentrated attention around this area by these questionable Islamic types.

Good to know, Slowboat.
I just looked at some photos of the bridge and the tunnel as I've never been to the area.

Hovhannes Poghosyan is the name of an Armenian NGO last here under the charter "To assist the Republic of Armenia in the process of establishing a strong socio economic democratic structure."
Mr Hovhannes POGHOSYAN, Head of International Co-operation Division, Police of Armenia, 130 Nalbandyan street, 375025 YEREVAN
Tel: +374 1 59 61 29 / Fax: +374 1 54 81 37 / E-mail: Poghosyan2001@yahoo.com

The family name Artavazd Janshyan has a history in Armenian politics.

I have not been able to make a Positive ID of the individuals involved in the traffic stop of the Georgetown incident, so these may be different people entirely.

Very possible these individuals were actually ME's with false ID's.

I don't understand why they are searching for them when they were stopped the officers found the suspicious items in the car. Did they let them go?

The car was traveling about 82 mph in a 60-mph zone, Waites said.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Artavazd Janshyan, Waites said. The passenger in the car was identified as Hovhannes Poghosyan. After searching the car, investigators found a video camera, a digital camera, electronic wires, several VHS tapes with foreign markings and a large laminated picture of the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel, Waites said.

"concern over protecting the Chesapeake Bay tunnel, lest the tunnel be blown and the NAVY fleet trapped inside Norfolk, Virginia, unable to emerge...."

Well, that makes the guys with pictures etc. even more interesting. I'm still wondering why they weren't held? Are we reverting to pre-9-11 thinking again?

On various sites, most believed the skyline was NY; some did speculate that it could be Seattle if I recall correctly.

I see NYC with downtown on the right working its way uptown to the left. Just MO.

Greenbelt...Glendale......as I read that article snippet it all seemed so familiar.

But where...why was it familiar? Then -- finally -- I thought, oh, the anthrax letters from the "Greendale School."

I hate when that happens, when you can't remember why something is so familiar. But such relief when we finally do remember!

Rumsfeld says that 9/11 Commission briefed about Able Danger
FNC | August 23, 2005 | FNC

Posted on 08/23/2005 1:51:56 PM EDT by Peach

Rumsfeld is having a press conference. Under the Fox News Alert the big banner read:

Rumsfeld says that Able Danger briefed the 9/11 Commission.

Did anyone hear his remarks on this matter; all I've seen is the banner.
