This article more than anything else is an attempt to explain WHY the old assumptions were not fulfilled. It is not merely the wishes of our enemies for a Multi-polar world. That has also been a goal of the intellectual elites across the globe including those within this country (recall John Kerry's campaign.)

This guy is a REALIST attempting to determine why his ideology has failed so miserably. Statements of historical truths are not necessarily wishes or intentions and are not at odds with many here who rant about the American "Empire" and long for isolationism.

While I believe he definitely desires that China's interests be protected I do not think he sees Communism as a long term means of doing so. His call for better understanding of the American system is essentially asking that it be imitated. Understanding it alone is not going to make China stronger.

Hegemon is not an insult.

If the day comes when people are not clamoring to get into this country and are clamoring to get out then he is correct our hegemon can be challenged at that point and not before.

I would add the following: This guy is a REALIST (kind of) attempting to determine why China's ideology has failed so miserably in challenging the dominance of the US thus far and how China needs to go about challenging us in the future so that China can be in charge of Asia rather than the US.

On top of being a realist (with which I agree to some extent) he is a forward thinker.
