I don't agree with that. Wayne was far more effective on screen than he would've been on the battlefield.

I agree with you, Jonny. Surly the Vietnam experience has taught us how critical keeping up morale on the home front is to any war effort. In fact, that's why the Left is doing all it can to demoralize the American people now. I only wish we had a John Wayne around making films today.

It's late afternoon here in the Pacific time zone. Time to think about taking the dogs out and also what's for dinner. There may or may not be a Dose update tomorrow, depending on if there's any photos.

I loved the Wayne story....he may have been 4F but one of the reasons was he had several children at the time and that too kept him home, although, he could have volunteered..

And Wayne was one of the few stars to actually go to South Vietnam to see the troops. (I specify "South" because of course "North Vietnam" was reserved for Jane Fonda :)

No I didn't--but, and I hate to admit this, I've never seen Hondo :)

You'll like Hondo...Geraldine Paige...Wayne's character reminds me of the one he played in the Searchers...a quite, dark character..

I have and I can see them again tonight on TCM, back-to-back starting at 8pm--but that might be too much Wayne at one time :)

I have to go now, Buddy. It's been great to talk to you--see you soon!

Jonny

With regard for who these terrorists are, and exactly how much we should feel sorry for them and how 'downtrodden' they are, take a look at THIS . (Elder son sent it to me, so you don't have to register to read it).

It provides some food for thought, at least......even if you don't agree with the author's conclusions.

Hah! Some "vacation" I'd say.

Thank you Wolfstar, for today's Dose. And I also nominate you for GWB's Press Secretary.

There was an imminent threat of invasion by the Japanese on the West Coast after Pearl Harbor.

The Japanese did invade Alaska and made balloon attacks on Oregon.

And it was unknown how many of those put in camps were would-be saboteurs. Or would have been shot by angry or frightened citizens if seen on the street.

It is a rose-colored glasses Monday morning quarterback call to fault FDR on the internment camps.

However, the property confiscation was a travesty.

There were many ways to serve in the country in WWII, and many Japanese-American citizens did volunteer and fought in Europe. I feel the ones who were in internment camps also served. I believe they should be proud of the sacrifice they made for the safety and peace of mind of the country.

But as tough as their service was and as unfair as it must have seemed to them, it in no way compares to what hundreds of thousands of our Marines went through in the Pacific and the unfairness endured by the tens of thousands who came back severely wounded or in coffins.

My Dad was Navy Air Crew in WWII in the Atlantic, communications officer and sometimes naval intelligence. That was the best use of his skills, as he was already doing this job for Panagra (Pan American-Grace lines) in South America on Pearl Harbor Day. Although he was a crack shot with a rifle, an inherited male family trait, and would have been an excellent sniper.

I was wondering what all of those "removed by the moderator" posts were!!!

LOL! I thought there were too many trolls who were dateless on a Saturday evening. Oh wait-- DUH! They're always dateless.
