The poor kids with hemophilia need tranfusions constantly during the early '80's and ended up with AIDS.
My favorite science fact/fiction author, Isaac Asimov, had a heart bypass operation around '85. You guessed it; got a blood tranfusion contaminated with the HIV virus. Killed him!

Thats a shame.
Like I stated earlier I cannot believe there are people who think this is some kind of "rights" issue.
Why the heck would a gay male want to donate their blood. They know that HIV has an incubation period that can last for years before it surfaces in an infected person.
I believe people have either forgotten what happened in the 1980's or they are to young and didn't live through it. Throw in the fact that many people believe that AIDS "doesn't discriminate". Nothing could be further from the truth. It is still predominantly a gay man's disease. The only exception may be the continent of Africa. Sadly the entire continent seems to be HIV positive. By the way most African's are banned from donating blood in the west as well.
