Unfair to compare Carter with Neville Chamberlain. Chamberlain finally figured out appeasment wouldn't work when Hitler invaded Poland. Carter still hasn't figured it out.

But you are right about one good thing he accomplished-- giving us eight years of Ronald Reagan:

1980 1984

No offense to any Minnesota Freepers, but what is wrong with that state that they actually went for Carter twice?

The quality of an administration is inversely proportional to the task it leaves for its successors:

It's a still a mystery to me how Reagan was able to carry Massachusetts twice.

Nice maps!

The second map gives a hint of the states we have trouble with now.....shaded in lighter blue....upper midwest, northeast, Pacific coast, New Mexico....

Interesting background on this 1984 election results map, especially the part about Minnesota, Mondale's home state.

Mondale campainged in Minnesota exclusively for the last week to ten days, trying to fend off the humiliating embarassment of losing his own home state. (Gore did lose his home state of Tenn in 2000, btw.) After all that effort, Mondale won Minn by only 3700 votes.

Thanks for the maps. Do you have a map of the 76 election? I think comparing and contrasting 76 to 80 would be telling as well.
