The US hasn't had much of a border until recently. The empire had a frontier up until 1890, officially, but population was low enough that the border economy wasn't capable of attracting wetbacks in any quantity and any and all were welcome to settle in the frontier. I wouldn't propose that we form a solid border even now. America is more a state of mind than any buildings and other piles of stone. If the Terrorists and more formal enemies start blowing up the buildings, they won't touch us except to incite the relatives and friends and neighbors of the injured to demand revenge and victory over this scourge. Mexicans? They are a lot like us and will band together with us.

Or at least pack a lunch.
To: Ditter
I agree but that doesn't excuse break ins and stealing.

If they adopt our language, monetary system, basic civil and legal mores, respect property rights, and behave themselves in public, then they are net-benefits.
If they do not, they are net-detriments.
It is that simple.

Just want to tell everyone Hello.I am very interested in what you are discussing for I also agree the border needs to be closed now.It looks like Senor Bush is on the wrong side of this issue so what can be done?Have there been any demonstrations of people in the border states to get media attention? The only thing I heard was what a good job the Minutemen have been doing.Something has to be done now with all the incurable diseases being brought in to this country they need to go now!Saw tonight on Fox the gun battle at Nuevo Laredo with all the kidnapping of Americans-close those borders fast!

we are fools if we characterize this as a minor problem BTTT

"While Rodriguez said she has never heard of an immigrant stealing jewelry or other valuables, burglaries do contribute to homeowners' negative feelings toward migrants. "They feel violated and there's no way around it," she said."
So, I guess the ILLIGAL IMMIGRANTS wait to steal the good stuff from us in non border states. Don't want to be slowed down by the goods, I guess.

Very good observation. To the Romans their DiD made military sense, but in the end they paid the price.

I didn't begrudge them the food or shelter I would begrudge them everything. Big time.

Do you really think once they get here they are going to abide by ANY LAWS if they haven't already?! Haven't you heard? Illegal aliens have super rights. They are not REQUIRED to follow any of the laws that us mere citizens are required to follow. /sarc

My experiences on the border with illegals was all many years ago. It has become unacceptable and it needs to be stopped. It should never have progressed to this point.

"It's frustrating for them and no one likes it, but they know it's desperation," Rodriguez said. "Let's put this another way. It's frustrating for the Nazis when they have to kill so many Jews - no one likes it, but they know it's desperation."
We can rationalize anything because Bush is president, can't we Republicans?
