Delivering votes on CAFTA - All Systems Go!
The Washington Times ^ | August 4, 2005 | Joel Mowbray

Posted on 08/04/2005 11:25:43 AM PDT by Politics4Fun

Of all those most mentioned as winners in last week's successful passage of the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) — the White House, the Republican-led Congress, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay — none proved himself or earned as much newfound respect as Majority Whip Roy Blunt. Though seen as an effective leader and vote-herder, Mr. Blunt had never really commanded the awe and reverence in the position as his predecessor — and close ally — Mr. DeLay. Last week's come-from-behind victory on CAFTA, however, might just change that. In the beginning of the year, just about the only person who believed that the House could pass CAFTA — which has been in the works for the better part of a decade — was Mr. Blunt.

Once again it looks like Majority Whip Blunt is finally getting some well-deserved attention, as President Bush has certainly been pushing for this to go through.

We can only wish for more leaders like Blunt in Washington.

Blunt is simply a tireless worker. Whether he's busting his ass traveling the country rallying support or getting votes together in washington, he does an excellent job and sets a great example.

Exactly, which is another byproduct of a solid piece of legislation. I'm just glad that the right people are getting the credit for this...Bush and Blunt. Both pushed hard for it and I will look forward to seeing their hard work come to fruition.

No CAFTA is a bad thing, if you believe in sovereign nations and the sovereign rights of individuals.

However if you think a group of globalists are fit to decide what it good for America's ecnomy, and what parts of the American economy they should give away to the third world, then you might think CAFTA was just fine.

They really can't afford to buy our products. But think of the millions of low wage to slave laborers different companies will have access to so they can offshore their manufacturing?

Just think of the dirty plantations in Dominican Republic that will be supplanting US sugar producers. They use slave labor, and they don't even have sewage or running water for their workers.

Its good for Haiti too, because the Haitians are brought in to the DR to work as slave labor. There will be more demand for this, now that the US sugar producers will be put out of business.

Its also good for the human traffickers, because now it will be much easier for them to bring sex slaves to work in the US pornography industry. The DR and central America have been shown by the State Department to be a significant source for human traffickers. Its Such A Deal!

Communism IS socialism and democracy is the root of it.. Democracy causes socialism.. as Lenin, Marx AND Mao fully knew.. America is BECOMING a democracy if it isnt one NOW, practically.. ..

Democracy is the road to socialism. Karl Marx

Democracy is indispensable to socialism. The goal of socialism is communism. V.I. Lenin

The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism.- Karl Marx

** Democracy is the enemy.. Socialism is only a symptom..
When was the last time you heard "democracy" decribed as MOB RULE.. socialism.. A socialism is what they are after AND ARE GETTING by the way.. We should be FIGHTING democracy NOT socialism.. Americans are thougly brain washed.. Yes including many HERE(FR) on this issue..

So, I'm not too clear on this, CAFTA is a good thing???

That's a great way to get regulars posting things.

Some will say CAFTA is a tax-cut.  Others will say CAFTA will let "globalists...  decide what it good for America's ecnomy, and what parts of the American economy they should give away to the third world".

I can show you where in CAFTA it tells congress to cut taxes and roll back government interference.  Hedge and I can show you where foreigners get to complain if congress doesn't cut taxes and regulations (and I can also show you where they complain even without CAFTA).  Hedge can't show you where the constitution got changed so foreigners make laws instead of congress, because it wasn't and they can't. You can read the final CAFTA text here yourself if you want

One point where Hedge and I agree is that whether you decide CAFTA is good or bad depends a lot on what you like.

If sovereignty is the property of the American people, what right does our government have to sell it to the third world for a "trade" agreement?

If you don't care about sovereignty and want to sell yours, I guess thats fine. But by supporting the CAFTA you are selling everyone's sovereignty, you are making money on it, the people who are displaced by "free trade" are sacrificing for you. Yet you are not willing to give sacrifice for them to help protect their right to a sovereign nation?

I am not miserable about the passage of CAFTA, but I am resolute. Our progeny deserve to have the constitutional government that was the inheritance of our generation. I won't squander mine and leave the children of this country to pine and die in a global socialist society.

CAFTA is a great thing. Leftists and the fringe right hate it.

You sell your sovereignty, you're selling mine too.

As an American, shouldn't that idea be abhorrent to you?

Oh and by the way, the only part the leftist don't like is the labor part.

Loyal Americans know the CAFTA to be unconstitutional, and diminishes sovereign citizen rights to representative government, personal liberty and individual sovereignty.

Those are two mighty different things, that you like to smear with one brush.

Most conservatives understand that sovereignty is an imaginary issue brought up by the fringe right. You are of the mindset that any agreement which obligates or limits the country in any manner is a sellout of sovereignty.

It ain't so.

Sorry, its only "free trade" agreements I oppose because as has been stated hundreds of times on this forum, "Free trade" is globally managed trade. Its is trade by socialists to promote socialism. You cannot claim to be a conservative, where you would want to conserve individual rights and the sovereignty of the country, and be so blase about the fraud called "free trade".
