I think the angle on the pro-bono stuff is a bit different than is being portrayed here.

For any story like that, the operative question should be 'who benefits from it'?

It is a bit ridiculous to think that a story like that would have the impact of derailing Roberts' support within the GOP.

OTOH, there have been a number of stories which would serve to make him more 'palatable' to the Dims. This one falls into that category. Gives them hope that he's not a hardcore conservative.

Nevertheless, it is a sideshow. He will sail through the confirmation process. 70+ yeas.
