You never know when drug-addicted mother, absent father, or the court on its own volition is going to surface and take the child away from you.Which is why so many people adopt from overseas. It isn't a racial issue, it's the knock at the door from some relative and their lawyer three or four or five years later who wants the child back. Even if you win, the stress and money involved isn't worth the risk.

Six months ago, my sister got a phone call from the son she gave up for adoption 34 years ago. It's worked out ok, but your point is well taken.
