Let face it if you are up front you get your picture taken. I too think the 101st is an elite fighting force. I'll be glad when they are back.
When amphibs is all you have you got to use them. The Marines did not even have M1A1's in the first Iraq get together. As in WWII we got the equipment the army did not want any more.

Gee-that's big of you admitting the 101st is elite. How are they more so than the rest of the Army that you started this thread to run down? I am sure that the Marines on this patrol could have used up-armored HMMWVs and so a single IED would not have resulted in 14 KIAs. What's really pathetic though is that you used that occasion to take a poke at another service that has over 1200 KIAs.

I MEF did indeed have M1A1s in Desert Storm serving with 2d Tank Battalion and elements of 4th Tank Battalion. 60 M1A1s were borrowed from the Army, in exchange for some LAVs, and 16 were new builds. Following the skirmish the Army got their Abrams back.
