"Read this article about how the states could replace their taxes with the Fair Tax base and rebates" Just because a state COULD replace their current tax structure doesn't mean they will. Like I keep saying this so called fairtax depends heavily on a lot of assumptions, assumptions that most likely will not happen, given states and the feds propensity to spend and spend.

Without a serious cut in overall spending, all we end up with is a higher tax rate than ever. Pushing this tax without seeking out the downside is a formula for another disaster, one that we will end up having to pay for a very long time.

Nothing involving government is without a downside. Portraying this tax as having no downside is very dishonest, to say the least.

Actually, the attempt is to correct some of the "downside" that we presently have with the income tax ... or do you see no "downside" to the present system?

Certainly the Tax Panel does.
