I am NOT for the so called "fair tax" plan. What we will have is a national sales tax AND an income tax even if not, at first, we do not. The ONLY way to have this "fair tax" is to get rid of the 16th amendment FIRST. Otherwise, we will just be ADDING a tax not REPLACING one.

Is that what you guys want, ADDING a national sales tax to our already overburdned tax system?

The fair tax bill repeals every section of the code dealing with income taxes, estate taxes, corporate taxes and payroll taxes and eliminates the IRS. The repeal of the 16th can only come AFTER we have replaced the income tax with something else. The govt. can't function without revenue while the state legislators dick around for 3-4 years ratifying the amendment.

No, not at all - and the FairTax bill specifically does just the opposite.

It eliminate income, payroll, etc. taxes and eliminates (and defunds for good measure) the IRS and requires the income tax records to be destroyed.

It also calls for the repeal of the 16th amendment which it cannot do itself since it is a tax bill not a constitutional amendment bill (the logistics and requirements of the two are quite different).

You may not know but one of the Democrats has introduced a bill to add a sort of sales tax on top of the present tax system - truly a nightmare. Nothing in the laws prevents that right now. The FairTax bill protects us from that.

You'd do well to take a quick peek at the FairTax bill itself:
