Idaho sales tax is 5%, Washington's is 8. And Washington taxes cigarettes at an astronomical rate, while Idaho is quite a bit less, so many people come over the border to buy smokes. And yes, I kid you not, Washington state police have set up observation posts at random times to monitor border smoke shops and watch people who cross the border to bring back cigarettes into Washington.

Think about that: a legal product, already bought and paid for, including taxes, and you get stopped and cited because you bought it out of state. I don't see them doing that with gasoline, or groceries, or any other product.

I'm not a smoker, but I think the cigarette market has been and continues to be taxed and retaxed. Product is legal. It's no wonder people and businesses start doing things to get around it. You should be able to buy what you want with your tax free dollars (what's left of it from state/federal taxes). Old colonist had more guts that we do. We need another Boston Tea party !
