My wife is an E-3 in the Navy with less than 17 months of service. Her gross pay (with allowances for housing and subsistence) is about $2800/month.

I'm very glad to hear things have improved since the 90's. Frankly, anyone who enlists is worth his/her weight in gold.

If I had my way, we'd stop financing the EPA, the NEA (both of 'em), and the IRS, and give the money to the military. That would rock Putin's world.

Everyone always bashes Wal-Marts jobs, but they always talk about the stores. Wal-Mart runs the biggest private trucking fleet in the world and the waiting list of drivers trying to get hired is very long.
Their drivers are very well paid and home most nights. New hire drivers have to have many years and hundreds of thousands of accident free miles just to qualify for the waiting list.
Then there are the Distribution Centers. Now we are talking about a thousand full time with benefits 30K+ plus jobs in over 30 warehouses in the US.
All Wal-Mart employees do not work in the stores. Many Wal-Mart employees are full time workers who love their jobs and are satisfied with both their wages and benefits.
