I could be wrong. However, it can take multiple gunshot wounds to kill people as well. With smashing the windpipe, I wasn't think of a fist per se, but of a grab and twist. It's a little hard to explain.... this comes from my stepdad who has raised many GSDs, and who has never had a problem being recognized as the alpha by nearly any dog he's met. As he explains, with his own dogs - every day he shows them who's alpha. I don't think fists are effective on dogs that are hell-bent on a fight. However, knowledge of weak spots is key.
I understand your point but an enraged dog will no react the same as a human who's been shot.
Waste of time and your arm trying to strangle a dog.
If you are unarmed against somthing like a rottie, and he's closed with you, believe it or not, I'd ram my hand down his throat till it came out the end. You can't change your mind halfway though. You can't take your hand out until he drops and you have to keep pushing all the way to your shoulder if need be, or he'll be able to bite.
He can't bite if he's gagging on your forearm. Watch one puke and you'll notice how their jaws automatically widen. Gag reflex forces their mouth wide open.
Hope you never need that advice.
