Bad analogy. You cannot domesticate a shark or a lion or a rattlesnake. These dogs have been domesticated for a long, long time. The only exposure most people have with rottweilers is when they read about an attack in the MSM or see their neighborhood thug being being pulled by one. You never read about the dog protecting people from attacks unless you went to the ARA or AKC just like you would have to subsribe to the NRA's magazine to read about gun owner preventing attacks. Spend some time with responsible owners and their dogs....sure they will be biased just as NRA members are biased. Better yet talk to K9 crews in law enforcment and the military and let them tell you about their rottweilers, german shepards and dobermans (and other breeds).

Pretty odd that some act as if Rottweilers roamed the plains in packs before they were "domesticated."

Funny you should mention K9 cops. I was a military cop for 8 years. Worked with K9 troops on a daily basis. Some of the dogs were great. One, I can't remember the breed, turned on it's handler and bit him in the face. The skin from the upper left side of his forehead down to the left side of his cheek, just above the chin was ripped off and left dangling. These two were "partners" for over two years. The guys that were near by when it happened could not explain it. The handler could not explain it. Now yes, it was a military working dog, but it was also bonded to it's handler tighter than most people are with their pets. He is the LAST person it should have attacked.

Please understand, I am an animal lover. Truly. I love dogs, cats, just about any animal. More than people sometimes :) but I still believe some breeds of dog are more prone to snap and attack. Not for no reason, but perhaps because of an instinctual reason that may be "hardwired" into their very being.

I mentioned bullsharks in my other post. Vicious, nasty creatures, but I would not eradicate them. And it is possible to swim with them without anything happening. But, by it's nature, it can turn on you and attack (more likely with a bullshark because of it's high level of aggressive hormones). And when bullsharks attack, it's not uncommon that they don't just bite and leave like most sharks, they go for the kill. I tend to think some dog breeds are the same. I don't think they should be eradicated, but I do not turn a blind eye to the fact that some breeds are more apt to be vicious by nature.
