Well I do mortgage lending for one of the banks mentioned and the information is wrong. Some has to be "legal resident of the United States" to qualify for a mortgage. So, they check the box for citizenship knowing full well it'll never be investigated.

We get a copy of green card and drivers license.
Most that aren't legal don't want to go any farther when you let them know this.
Could they fake the above documents? Sure.
Can people fake tax returns, W2's, paystubs, etc. Yes they can.
There are bigger fish to fry than someone wanting to buy a home.
The bigger problem is the massive amount of illegals pouring in. The ones that want to get established and buy a home; while illegal, would be a small fraction.
The problem is the massive numbers content to live illegally and skitter from town to town.
And the Middle Eastern types slipping into the torrent at the border are very concerning to me.
