The streets always flood when it rains here. Your talking about a desert where rain makes the evening news, and we actually have 'rain chasers'. Having said that. We are experiencing strong winds with this storm. Wind gusts up to 60 mph and more than an inch of rain have fallen on parts of the Valley so far tonight. OK, so an inch isn't much for some of you out there. But just think of that poor sun baked toad waiting for a sip of water in the SW desert.

That was a hell of a storm front. It's passed us here in Mesa, but still wailing on the West Valley.

Hope no one was injured, those freak storms like that can be extremely powerful and destructive.
August of 2000 we had a wind shear (or micro burst) hit our little retirement community here in western Arizona along the Colorado river, it devastated many homes. The wife was in the bedroom trying to calm the dogs when a 2x6 was driven through the wall, barely missing her.
Also lost a pickup, totaled the motor home, boat and did considerable damage to home and detached garage.

We had 60 mph winds blow through here last night in a sudden and freak storm. 60 mph does not compare to a tornado, but they are getting up there. Lots of trees down...and it kicked up much dust. Visibility from the dust was near zero in places.

E. Phoenix/Scottsdale border here, lots of wind, some rain, lots of lightening.
Not like it was 30 years ago before all the sprawl.

Streets were flooded at the D-backs game. It usually doesn't rain this long.
