May this victory by Schmidt keep the lefties awake for months and demoralize them to the point of making good on their promise to move out of the country.

Fantastic! Rush said today this election was being helped by Dim higher-ups, kind of a trial balloon to see if running as a "conservative" might help them to win some elections again........oh well.....back to the drawing board.

You can put lipstick on a pig.....but it's still a pig.

It reminds me of Eleanor Clift crowing that Bush's 2004 victory was not a mandate for anything.

Up is down, right is left, defeat is victory...

YEA! YEA! YEA! FOR ALL YOU OHIOANS.

I was listening to Rush Limbaugh today and he played the sound bite on Paul Hackett pretending he was with President Bush on the war in Iraq. I am so glad his commercial and his serving in Iraq didn't fool anyone.

For all your Freepers who are complianing that this race should have been this close because it's a 75-25 Republican disticnt, please keep in mind that every left wing group and the DNC threw everything at this race...and they still lost. Turn out on the Republica side was extremyl low which is par for the course for special elections.

Don't fret. Don't get complacent. Numnuts like Hackett should be dealt with early and quickly. The RNC waited too long to attack him. Our wonderful media treated him like a demi-god. Want to guess how many times Schmidt was invited on a national news program compared to Hackett?

Ofcourse the idiots on the left will gloat about how a guy who called the POTUS a SOB, came within 4% and I too wonder how and why. If this bastard runs again in 15 months, we take him out...politically speaking.

Two questions: why was the seat open, and shouldn't the vote have had a higher Republican percentage?

One of the answers in the story posted earlier:

"Schmidt, 53, will replace Republican Rob Portman, who stepped down this year after being named U.S. trade representative by President Bush."

While a Hackett victory still seemed unlikely, political observers said a strong showing by the Democrat would send a powerful message to Republicans gearing up for 2006.

Yeah, Democrats are losers so you should maintain your majority.

I was just reading that the Pub is a bit of a RINO and was opposed by the Club For Growth in the primary.

Also, the Dem is a Marine who just got back from Iraq and ran as a conservative.

The seat was open because GWB nominated Rob Portman as U.S. Trade Representative, and yes, the vote should've been much more solidly Republican but there were a number of factors converging to make it a close race. A win is a win anyhow. Close doesn't cut it for the losers though.

Two questions: why was the seat open, and shouldn't the vote have had a higher Republican percentage?

The incumbent, Rob Portman, accepted a position in the Bush administration as National Trade Representative.

Portman was a seven-term Congressman who won with a 72% majority in '04. Yes, it should have been a higher Republican percentage, but these seem to have been the mitigating factors:

1. Schmidt was a State Rep, little known outside her home base (Clermont County).

2. Hackett, the Dem challenger, was a Marine who had seen duty in Iraq and he was very well-funded. His commercials never identified him by party, and he related himself to the President, the military and Iraq.

3. Turnout was pitifully low...but there were several school levies on the ballot in key districts. This was probably a major factor, in that it insured high turnout by the teacher's union.

In other words, a little-known Republican defeated a well-funded Democrat who ran as a Republican.

Sounds like a "girlfriend" I used to have.(crystals, "karma spray", etc)

I know, you all ask"why would a decent, conservative, guy want with a leftist, new-age type? Well, I guess I thought I could "get her to change". And, for a little while, it LOOKED like that had a chance of happening(I say LOOKED, because it was just an ACT, or her part).

Oh well, that was a long time ago-- early '90s, to be exact.I know better now.

I think you'll like this post from my site then...

SwingStateProject is declaring this a big victory for Democrats. Yeah I guess that’s true because the Democrats have learned that:

If their candidate pretends to be a Republican…
They swarm the candidate with a lot of $$$…
They Blogswarm the candidate and attack the Republican…
And if the Righty blogosphere does nothing to respond…
And if the Republican is hampered by spending all the money in the primary…
They put hundreds of volunteers on the street…
In a low turnout election…
When nothing else is going on in the whole freaking country…

They still lose.

MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Sorry, couldn’t resist. All done gloating now.

Ok. One more.

MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
