Even at $8.00 plus, natural gas generation on these new turbines will be a lot cheaper than any unconventional power source. Not to mention that it can be brought online very quickly compared to Nuke's or Coal plants. When we need more energy, we need it NOW, not ten years from now.
Grampa dave's suggestion the GE teamed with Calpine is probably right on the money. IMO Calpine is still on somewhat shaky financial ground.
