I really want to fly Cathay and Singapore, I never got any deals on them. I really enjoy EVA, they make it so easy to earn miles and upgrade. Bangkok Airlines is great too, free lounge for all passengers, free internet, food in the lounge, and meal on every flight.

if it is really true that after that landing that everybody got off the plane alive, including the injured, before the plane blew up it's got to mean that the French Flight Attendants were doing something very right and very brave.

On 9/8/94 a US Air 737 in Pittsburgh just fell out of the air on final approach killing all on board. The crash was blamed on an uncommanded rudder movement, and all 737's had to be modified to (partially) avoid the problem.

Obviously you ground a fleet to fix a mechanical problem that kills people.

They didn't ground any airplanes after that Airbus' tail just sorta fell off.

We were even especially mad at france that week. What better time to stick it to them? What better excuse?

No groundings, therefore no mechanical failure, therefore the government knew it was terrorism.

My folks had a membership at Coto de Caza back when it first opened (my dad liked the shooting range). I have some great memories, too, of camping at O'Neil Park.

There was a Pinnacle Peak at the corner of Garden Grove Blvd. and Beach Blvd. when I lived near that intersection - not sure whether it's still there.

They didn't ground 737s - even the 300 series - after the Pittsburgh, either - there are too many of them in service and it would have wiped out the airline industry.

They didn't ground Airbus A300s after the Flight 587 incident because X-Rays didn't reveal any evidence that their carbon-fiber composite tails were on the verge of fracturing. Boeing uses carbon-fiber composites on its newer planes, also, so you can't fault Airbus for building with it either. The most that can be said is that since the A300 is an older plane, the airlines who use them should start retiring them - and they are doing so.

If you want to bash France, stick to boycotting the wine...California needs the money. ;)

Agreed. I'm just sick and tired of government pukes blandly announcing that it wasn't terrorism before the fire is out.
If they'd say we think it's unlikely to be terrorism, or it looks like a mechanical failure/pilot error, etc. fine. But to come out and flatly state with no evidence that it couldn't possibly be terrorism before anyone has even looked at the scene???

The problem is neither of the above actually ever happens; it's a fabrication by people that 1) like to whine about stuff 2) are strangely frustrated by the lack of terror attacks in the US since 9/11 and thus need to invent them.

What actually happens in the hours or few days after some disaster is a spokesman says, truthfully, something to the effect of "at this point we have no indications that terrorism was involved" and it gets mis-remembered or deliberately twisted into them making a flat declarative statement that terrorism definitely wasn't involved, which isn't actually what they said.

Sometimes people need to be reminded that Flight Attendants are not glorifies bartenders...they're safety officers first.

A friend of mine was a FA for Air Transat for years. They practices this stuff endlessly.

I heard Fox News say the crew WAS NOT aware that there were heavy thunderstorms in progress at the airport at the time.

I find this very hard to believe. Pearson (YYZ) is a major hub fully kitted out with the best tech there is.

Further, the transcontinental glide path is directly over my office. Daily I watch Lufthansa, Air France and KLM flights come in. When I saw the Lufthansa flight today (around 3pm) I remarked to a coworker that storm conditions must be fairly bad around the airport as they were stepping down the approach altitudes really early and the planes were coming over our location unusually low.

No way the pilots didn't know there were weather issues. No way.

Sounds more like microburst on landing, plane pushed down hard, hydroplaned and went into a ravine.

After a few hours of reflection and info you may have it nailed. I've heard reports of tire bursts on main gear touchdown. Not confirmed from my end, though.

Regular daily flight. They would have turned the plane around and then flown back to Paris. And then back to Toronto, and back to Paris...

Sorry, further to that. Toronto Pearson, being a major gateway into the U.S., has full U.S. Customs inspection facilities in every terminal that serves The States. When I fly south of the border, I clear U.S. Customs before I board the plane. I think this is a good thing, and Canada would solve significant refugee/immigration problems if we would universally adopt a similar policy.
